Behind the pour: The Midnight Galaxy collection

The Midnight Galaxy tray wasn't supposed to exist. Asha was trying to recreate a specific shade of deep navy she'd seen in a photograph of the Mariana Trench — that impossible blue-black where sunlight gives up.

The first attempt was too purple. The second, too dark. By the fifth, she had something interesting but wrong. "It looked like a bruise," she laughs. "Beautiful, but a bruise."

It was attempt seven that introduced the gold leaf. Not as a design decision — she knocked a sheet of transfer foil off the table and it drifted into the wet resin. The result was so unexpected she stopped everything and photographed it before it cured.

"That accident became the entire collection," she says. "The gold isn't placed. It falls where it wants to."
